Caravensari 57 Readmore
China is a multi-ethnic country comprising of 56 ethnic groups. This project aims to explore how architecture can help the country's 55 ethnic minorities and its dominant population, the Han Chinese, to envision better host-guest relationships. Influenced by the ancient Caravanserai and the local minority settlement – the Muslim Hui Quarter, this project presents a modern Caravanserai for ethnic minority merchants from across the country, strategically located near Xi’an Railway Station.
Resisting Alienation Readmore
The over-abundance of urban life has led to numbness toward sensuality and a loss of self-identity and connection with others, a common issue in today's densely populated cities. In rural societies, tight-knit communities foster strong human relationships, where individuals support each other’s self-worth. This project envisions a future for Osaka that restores sensuality and self-awareness. By introducing a slower pace of life and creating small village-like communities, we aim to counter urban alienation, reignite enthusiasm for life, and reconnect individuals with their sensibility and sense of self.
Lab II: A Earth-Cooled Complex Readmore
Viewed as industrial and highly function-driven buildings, the design aspect of laboratories, such as energy performance and sustainability, are often given a lower priority. This project designed for CSIRO will feature a sustainable, P3 laboratory building at Monash University's Clayton campus. The final product attempts to meet the functional and spatial needs of the laboratory while experimenting aesthetically with locally relevant architectural philosophical ideas and making the building perform better with appropriate sustainable design techniques.
Chapter II: The Vanity Palace Readmore
A grand Victorian-style coffee palace is imagined on Moor Street in Melbourne’s Fitzroy district, celebrated for its rich coffee culture. Through a series of comic illustrations, the project critiques the Western obsession with coffee, revealing the hidden environmental and social costs. Both a celebration of luxury and a reflection on indulgence, the design prompts reconsideration of its broader implications.
Gymhaus, A Campus in Motion Readmore
Gymhaus is a campus design project located around Melbourne’s iconic MCG Stadium, challenging traditional educational spaces by exploring the radical integration of different building typologies. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek concept of gymnasiums, where debates and athletics coexisted, Gymhaus seeks to merge academic spirit with sportsmanship, creating a dynamic environment that celebrates freedom, inclusivity, and well-being on campus.
