Discover my first independently commissioned interior design project, where contemporary comfort meets traditional Chinese craftsmanship. This thoughtfully crafted space for a family of three showcases subtle elegance, playful details, and a seamless flow that redefines modern living.

As my first independently commissioned interior design project, this interior design for a family of three in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, focuses on creating a harmonious and clean living environment that blends contemporary aesthetics with traditional Chinese influences.

Warm whites and light-colored oak wood were selected to enhance both comfort and subtle elegance. These materials, combined with carefully chosen furniture, establish a welcoming and uncluttered atmosphere throughout the home.

A standout feature is the television wall, which incorporates a soft, curved texture to smooth the transition between the living room, balcony, and corridor. This design choice enhances the openness and visual flow within the space. The ceiling, inspired by traditional East Asian architecture, features a caisson ceiling (藻井), paying homage to historical craftsmanship while maintaining a modern and minimalist aesthetic.

To maintain functionality without compromising on aesthetics, appliances like the washing machine are concealed behind curtains near the windows, providing easy access while keeping the design cohesive.

At the request of the client’s child, a hidden entrance to the child’s bedroom has been integrated into the custom cabinetry along the living room wall. This playful touch adds a sense of discovery while maintaining visual harmony.

The project is currently in the design and procurement phase, with material and furniture selections ongoing. As my first independent project, it represents a blend of functional family living and modern interpretations of traditional design, bringing together comfort, elegance, and a touch of fun.
